WITH our 2018 Christmas Appeal now in full swing, we continue our series on the organisations which will benefit from your donations this festive season, with a closer look at the work of Spirit Aid.
Spirit Aid is a humanitarian relief organisation dedicated to alleviating the suffering of children and young people whose lives have been devastated by war, poverty, lack of opportunity or humanitarian crisis.
This winter will see Spirit Aid on the streets of Glasgow, working to support young homeless people through the gift of warm clothing and hot food. They will also be working with women and children who are facing struggles through the effects of domestic abuse, by providing practical support as well as food hampers and toys.
Through any donation received as part of this year’s Celtic FC Foundation Appeal, Spirit Aid will also look to provide Christmas gifts for a number of marginalised young people across the country.
Patrick Rolink of Spirit Aid spoke of the struggles faced by many of those who receive their support, and expressed his thanks for the backing received from Celtic FC Foundation.
He said: “This Christmas, Spirit Aid will deliver hundreds of well-stocked food hampers, as well as thousands of toys and gifts to support those in our community facing poverty and a harsh Christmas.
“Many of the young people we deal with live chaotic lifestyles and feel isolated, unwanted and unloved. It is amazing how a gift and some kindness can lift their hearts and spirits. Through the support we get from Celtic FC Foundation, we are able to give these youngsters hope in their hearts, that they are not walking alone.
“This support received from Celtic FC Foundation has enabled us to reach many families and young people who have slipped through the cracks and offer support and practical help that makes a real difference. Spirit Aid is delighted to be a beneficiary of Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Appeal once again. Thank you for your much-needed support.”
Spirit Aid is among a host of charity partner organisations which will benefit through this year’s Appeal and joins Glasgow East Women’s Aid, The Invisibles, St. Roch’s FC Foundation, Glasgow City Mission, St. Anne’s Primary School and St. Anne’s Church as those confirmed so far.
Through our Appeal, we’re aiming to help local families and pensioners who face poverty and hardship, and a number of charities who care for those experiencing the torment of homelessness or other disadvantage.
