Sean and Michelle set to scale the heights for Celtic FC Foundation

SATURDAY, June 30 will see a huge group of Celtic supporters once again scale Britain’s highest mountain and perform a Huddle at 4,408 feet, as part of Celtic FC Foundation’s Ben Nevis Huddle 2018.

Amongst those taking part, will be father and daughter, Sean and Michelle Houston of Glenrothes, Fife. They spoke to us of their excitement ahead of the event.

Sean said: “We’ve been involved with Celtic FC Foundation’s fundraising efforts for a while now through a few different events. We’ve both taken part in the Cardenden Cycle as well as helping out at bucket collections.

“Charity is the reason that Celtic Football Club exists, so it’s great that Celtic FC Foundation plays such a prominent part of the club today.

“Taking part in Celtic FC Foundation’s events not only offers the opportunity to raise funds for a wonderful charity but it also gives us the chance to do something with other members of our supporters’ club, outwith the norm of going to the games.”

Michelle added: “There were a number of Foundation events which we hadn’t done yet but the Ben Nevis Huddle in particular was one that we were really keen to try. Neither of us has ever done any mountain or hill walking before so it’s a completely new challenge for us and will take us right out of our comfort zone.

“We’ve seen the pictures of the Huddle at the top and it looks amazing, so getting up there and being part of that is one of the things we’re most looking forward to.

“But we’re well aware that it’s going to be a real challenge, so we’ll make sure that we stay fit ahead of it by keeping up our usual routines like going to the gym and cycling. There are also a lot of nice hills near where we stay, so we’ll be taking the opportunity to get a few big walks in.”

Sean and Michelle will be aiming to meet their fundraising target together but hope to exceed this with the help of their fellow supporters’ club members.

Sean said: “Our initial target is to reach £260 between us but we’ll be working together to try to go beyond that. We’ll probably go round the supporters’ bus on cup final day and I’m sure everyone will be as generous as ever.”

The Ben Nevis Huddle 2018 will take place on Saturday, June 30 and participants will start the climb from the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, following the Mountain Track route.

Groups will leave the centre dependant on fitness levels to allow as many people as possible to meet at the top for the Huddle at 1pm.
