CELTIC took to the field in Iceland on Wednesday night with a very notable change to their appearance.
Aside from being in the new all-green away kit, the now familiar sight of Celtic’s shirt sponsor, Magners, was replaced by the logo of the club’s charitable arm, Celtic FC Foundation.
Due to alcohol advertising restrictions in Iceland, Magners were not able to take the place their brand proudly fills on Celtic’s shirt.
But, in a fantastic gesture of support for the club’s charitable efforts, Magners offered the opportunity for Celtic FC Foundation to receive a fantastic level of promotion and awareness.
It’s the latest charitable act by Magners who, in their time as a partner of Celtic, have been a huge supporter of the Club’s social dimension. Magners have also donated £18,300 to the Foundation as a result of their ‘Goals for Charity’ initiative.
On that occasion, Magners donated £150 for every competitive goal that Celtic scored during the 2013/14 season with the Hoops notching 122 competitive goals during that title-winning campaign. It’s an initiative that continued through the successful 2014/15 season.
Celtic Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell said: “This is just the latest example of a great partnership between two great brands coming together in an innovative way.
“We are thankful for Magners’ ongoing support of Celtic FC and their desire to play a valued role in our charitable efforts are hugely appreciated.
“Our charitable and community work is such a fundamental part of the Club and makes such a positive difference to the lives of many thousands of people each year. It is magnificent that the work of our Foundation has been promoted in this way and we once again thank Magners for their wonderful assistance and co-operation in backing Celtic’s charitable vision.”
George Kyle, Head of Sponsorship at Magners, said: “We have been proud to support the brilliant work of Celtic FC Foundation via our “Goals for Charity” initiative over the last couple of seasons.
“With Wednesday night’s shirt’s carrying the logo of Celtic FC Foundation in such a high-profile fixture, hopefully we have helped build even greater awareness of the club’s charitable efforts ”
Tony Hamilton, CEO of Celtic FC Foundation, said: “I am very grateful to Magners for allowing Celtic FC Foundation’s logo in lieu of their own in Iceland.
“Magners have proven time and time again that they are a fantastic and progressive partner for us.
“A great example is the work we are about to undertake with them with cash raised from their ‘Goals for Charity’ initiative. One of our priorities is to take people further from poverty by helping them move closer to employment and this comprehensive training project, which we will launch soon, will enable us to do that.”
