Wee Jay puts Fernando Ricksen and MND in the picture

CELTIC FC Foundation Ambassador Jay Beatty and former Rangers player, Fernando Ricksen took time out for a photograph together in November last year when they met at Celtic Park and the image went viral with well wishers from around the Globe.

Now the young Celtic FC Foundation Ambassador has commissioned a local artist, Sean Mooney, to turn that very picture into a work of art that will be gifted to MND Scotland to raise funds at their Cornflower Ball on March 11, 2016.

Fernando Ricksen has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and continues his courageous battle while dedicating his time raising awareness of the illness and raising funds to help research.

The auction of this drawing will help raise funds for MND Scotland who provide care and support to everyone affected by Motor Neurone Disease, they also provide information and education services to healthcare professionals and fund research to find a cure.

Iain McWhirter from MND Scotland said: “We’re really grateful to Jay for such a kind gesture, and also to Sean for producing such a wonderful picture. The photo of Jay and Fernando has had so much interest on social media, and I’m sure this will help to raise a fantastic amount to help people affected by MND.

Celtic FC Foundation recently donated £10,000 donation in support of Fernando Ricksen, his family and MND Scotland.

Tony Hamilton, Chief Executive of Celtic FC Foundation said: “This is a wonderful gesture from Jay for a fantastic cause.

“We were very saddened to hear the news about Fernando, unfortunately at Celtic FC Foundation, we are all too familiar with Motor Neurone Disease and we have a long association with charities who tackle the illness.  We hope that Jay’s gift will help raise vital funds to continue this work”.
